Lumberton NC

Lumberton is the largest city in Robeson County. Lumberton is also the County Seat and is ideally situated on Interstate 95. To many travelers along the I-95 corridor, Lumberton is the midpoint between New York and Florida. Situated at the crossroads of two major interstates(I-95 and I-74), Lumberton is often referred to as the “Gateway to Southeastern North Carolina” and “The Main Street of the East Coast.”

Lumberton is considered part of the Southern North Carolina's Inner Banks region and is located on the Lumber River. It was founded in 1787 by John Willis, an officer in the American Revolution. Lumberton was developed as a shipping point for lumber used by the Navy, and logs were guided downriver to Georgetown, South Carolina.

In 2010, the NC Legislature designated Lumberton as the FIRST Certified Retirement Community in the state of North Carolina and in 2018 Lumberton earned recertification.
